How many hinges per door?

The chart to the right calculates the number of hinges that should be used on each
door. As there are so many variations in the exact weight and size of a door these
suggestions are only intended as a guide. This illustration is based on an 18mm
chipboard door 600mm wide.

Single screw height adjustment plates

Some plates with pre-inserted screws allow for single screw adjustment. Loosening
the hexagonal head screw allows the plate to be adjusted without loosening both
fixing screws.

Which type of mounting plate?

• We recommend euroscrew or chipboard screw fix mounting plates, with
integral adjustment
• Series 200 hinges can be used with BA series mounting plates to give a
superior quality snap-on hinge system
• BAR hinge plates have the additional feature of single screw cam adjustment
in all planes
• Series 200 hinges can also be used with B2 series mounting plates for a more economical slide on hinge function
• Series 900 hinges are used only with B2 series mounting plates and offer a fully adjustable low cost range of cabinet hinges
• Airmatic hinge is designed for use with a straight, snap-on baseplate

Installation

Many carcase thicknesses and door widths are used in furniture manufacture. It is
important, therefore to achieve the correct distance by which the door overlaps the
carcase side panel, so the door is positioned centrally on the carcase and can turn
without fouling. This is determined by the mounting plate height, drilling position
‘K’, door clearance gap and overlay.

Which type of hinge?

• 15/16mm board the use of a 5mm cranked hinge with 0mm mounting plate
• 18/19mm board a straight arm hinge with 3mm mounting plate
• Straight arm hinge can be used with a 6mm mounting plate
• For aluminium framed doors please refer to recommendation in section 1

Hinge hole position

By inserting the mounting plate height and amount of overlay required into the equation below you can determine the hinge hole boring position’K’.

For 5mm crank hinges ‘K’ = overlay + plate height -10
For straight arm hinges ‘K’ = overlay + plate height -15
‘K’ must be between the limits shown in the table opposite.

Door clearance gap

This distance is dependent upon the door width relative to the carcase width and would normally be 1.5-2.5mm. For door thicknesses over 21mm we
recommend making a working model for a more accurate assessment. For further information contact our Customer Services department.
